Product Overview

The LM5169 is a high-performance synchronous step-down DC/DC converter from Texas Instruments (TI), featuring an ultra-wide input voltage range of 6V to 120V, a 650mA output current capability, and support for Fly-Buck™ functionality. Designed specifically for demanding industrial, automotive and communications applications, this device delivers efficient and stable power conversion across a wide input voltage range, minimising the need for external surge suppression components.


Key Features

Ultra-wide input voltage range

The LM5169 supports a wide input voltage range of 6 V to 120 V (absolute maximum) with a junction temperature range of –40 °C to +150 °C. Even in extreme conditions where the input voltage drops to 6 V, the device continues to operate normally at a duty cycle close to 100 per cent.

High Output Current and Integrated MOSFETs

The chip incorporates integrated high-side and low-side power MOSFETs (1.9 Ω N-FET buck switch + 0.71 Ω N-FET synchronous rectifier), capable of delivering an output current of up to 0.65 A. This integrated design significantly reduces the solution size and overall cost.

Advanced COT Control Architecture

The Constant On-Time (COT) control architecture, combined with input voltage feedforward technology, delivers a virtually constant switching frequency and excellent load and line transient response. A minimum controllable on-time of 50 ns supports extremely high step-down conversion ratios, enabling direct conversion from a 48 V nominal input to a low-voltage rail.

Flexible Switching Frequency and Operating Modes

Adjustable switching frequency up to 1 MHz

FPWM mode: Forced Continuous Conduction Mode (CCM), supporting isolated fly-buck converter applications

Auto mode: Ultra-low quiescent current (<10 μA) + diode emulation, delivering high light-load efficiency

Shutdown quiescent current of just 3 μA

Comprehensive Protection Features

Peak and valley current limit protection

Input under-voltage lockout (UVLO)

Thermal shutdown protection

Fixed 3 ms internal soft-start timer

Open-drain power-good indicator

Pin Compatibility and Scalability

The LM5169 is pin-compatible with devices such as the LM5164, LM5163, LM5017 and LM34927, facilitating design upgrades and platform expansion.
